A mother with a young daughter, who had survived domestic violence, was residing in social housing within the Ancient Parish of Handsworth. She had been supported by the housing provider to transition from her experience of domestic abuse to independent living in a semi-furnished tenancy.

Given that the client had no savings, the housing provider referred her for support in obtaining essential items, including white goods, bedding, and furniture. A grant of £500 was awarded to the mother, allowing her to purchase items deemed a priority to make the accommodation more comfortable and suitable for both her and her daughter. This financial support aimed to improve their living conditions, enhance their wellbeing, and help prevent the family from spiralling into debt during their resettlement process.
This case highlights the importance of practical financial assistance in helping individuals rebuild their lives after trauma, enabling them to create a stable and supportive home environment.
