As a small Charity with limited funds and staff resources we are not able to address the underlying causes of poverty or social disadvantage, so we are not in a position to eliminate local poverty or social disadvantage. We look to give grants that will reduce hardship, alleviate social disadvantage and improve social wellbeing of the users and clients you are working with. Small grants are generally made between £2,000 - £5,000 and in exceptional circumstances of up to £10,000 are considered by Trustees, and only one application can be made in any 12-month period.

Grants may be made to help with essential equipment, materials or small repair work or capital items. Contributions can be considered to overhead and running costs or specific project costs. A contribution towards sessional staff fees, volunteering costs, local outreach costs to sections of the community not being reached and staff or volunteering training will be considered.

Trustees will not consider:

  • Paying for equipment/goods/work where statutory funding is available
  • Paying wages
  • Paying legal fees
  • Settling debts
  • Paying for items/work retrospectively
  • Generally, repeat grants to individuals in the same year, and only in exceptional circumstances
Our income is derived from our investment portfolio, and we receive many more applications than we can fund.

We do not use an application form for organisations to apply. We prefer to accept applications by sent by email but will accept postal applications. Trustees’ welcome applications for grants from all sections of the community that operate within the Ancient Parish of Handsworth and decisions that are made have regard to the Charity’s available funding levels. Our Equal Opportunities Policy is available on request.

Applications can be received throughout the year. We will endeavour to acknowledge your application within 2 weeks of receiving it. Trustees meet only 4 times a year – mid-March, mid-June, mid-September and mid-December. For applications to be considered at a meeting, applicants should endeavour to send an application one month before the Trustees meeting. If further information is required by Trustees before a decision can be made this may delay when Trustees are able to make a decision and the outcome communicated. If your application is taken to a Trustees meeting for consideration, then the outcome will be communicated within 2 weeks of the meeting.  All grant applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Trustees’ decision is final and as a small Charity with limited resources, we are not in a position to enter into any correspondence or discussion with unsuccessful applicants.

The confidentiality of your personal information is of paramount concern to us. We will process and hold your personal information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
